I was going through the photos on my phone, and realized I forgot to post this outfit! Good old H&M :

[the inspiration for my blog]

Isn’t this slogan perfect? And I just love the zipper details on these pants.

cozy, two ways

Sorry I’ve been a little remiss in posting, but I’ve had some insanely busy and stressful weeks. Like I said in my last post, the weather’s finally cooling down, and all I want to do is bundle!

I had to work over the holiday, so I decided I’d be warm for a casual day at the office.

[hat: Target; sweater coat: Element ‘Esther‘; backless tee: Obey; jeans: Paige; boots: Via Spiga; sunnies: Elizabeth & James]

It was still cold when I suited up and headed to court on Tuesday, so I did business layers!

[suit, sweater, chambray: J.Crew; wedges: Zara; gym bag: Lululemon (no longer available, but how great is this one?)]

Stay warm, everyone!

personal holiday

Last year at our office holiday party, they gave out certificates for “personal holidays” (i.e., day off) and I realized I had made it all the way to the end of October without using even one, so I decided to remedy that today. Thankfully it was a beautiful day! I had a leisurely brunch with a friend, then had a drink and indulged in some fascinating people-watching at the San Diego Yacht Club, and followed it up with dinner/drinks with my work friends to celebrate a coworker’s massive victory at trial.

[jacket: J.Crew Factory; dress: Collective Concepts at Mimi & Red; wedges: TOMs; ‘disco city’ bag: Foley & Corinna (love the ‘Venom’ color!]

I snapped this photo at my friend’s house, amidst her Halloween decorations. Spooky, huh?

I adore this dress! It’s comfortable and stylish, and the best part? The open back!

Happy Friday!

insta-fashion

Here are a few looks from the weekend – the weather finally cooled off and it’s even raining lightly, so of course traffic is a nightmare and people were creeping down the freeway this morning on the way to church. Sigh.

[top: Madewell; pants: BCBG: wedges: Zara; sunnies: Elizabeth & James]

[top: H&M (old); cords: GAP (old); wedges: Mea Shadow; rings: Stella & Dot, American Eagle]

[glitter letters: Target Dollar Bin!]

Nothing says “Halloween” like pink sparkly letters, right?

bright/happy/hour

The title of this blog is exactly how I felt in this outfit today! Here are some more of my outlet finds from Monday:

[tee/skirt: Gap Factory; belt: Ann Taylor Factory; watch: Nixon; leather and neon wrap: Gorjana (via Gilt); heels: J.Crew (old)]

[sunnies: Elizabeth & James “Eldridge” (tortoise version here); denim jacket: J.Crew Factory]

Happy colors call for happy hour! We went to URBN for some drinks and wood-fired pizza. Although they have a great selection of beer, I opted for a mule. So refreshing and delicious!

Cheers to the weekend!

chocolate rain

Confession: this video cracks me up, and I couldn’t stop singing it when I tried this suit on at the Ann Taylor Factory store yesterday. They had an amazing sale for Columbus Day, and regular-priced items were 50% off! I picked up this dress and suit jacket, along with the matching pants and two belts for under $300!

I had such a busy day today – taking one day off of work is a killer – I was in court until noon, and I think I drove through all of East County today and then came back and worked in the office until 7:00 and I still don’t feel caught up! Thankfully this dress held up wonderfully. I just spent the past 3 hours roasting squash and making soup so I’d have food for the rest of the week!

Here’s to productivity,

pretty in pink

I hardly ever wear baby pink, but I saw that H&M was having 50% off of their sale items, and couldn’t help picking up this dress, which ended up being $5 after the discount! $5! I went back with one of my friends, and CLEANED UP at the sale. I’ll post some of my new purchases soon!

Can we take a moment to stop and reflect on how great the camera is on the iPhone 5? This photo is completely unedited!
I’m so excited this is a long weekend for me (court’s closed Monday, so our office is too!) – hopefully some of you can also take the day off!

flat iron curls

Hi reader(s)!

So I’m still in love with my ombre highlights, but was convinced I’d never be able to get my hair to look as good as it did the day I left the salon. I watched my stylist curl my hair with the flat iron, and even asked her to walk me through it step-by-step, but I still couldn’t get it to work! But I watched a few tutorials (including this one by Style-Ish) and after a lot of trial and error, I’m happy with the results! For me, the trick seemed to be taking small sections and releasing the clamp on my flatiron a split second before I get to the ends of my hair. I also used Bumble & Bumble’s Thickening Hairspray while my hair was damp and finished it off with a liddlebit of Grooming Creme.

[Voila! As opposed to “viola” or “wah laa” as I’ve seen it creatively spelled]

Here’s a full-body shot. Before we get there, please note that I did not intend for my shirt+shorts tuck-in to look so…crotchy, but I snapped this photo on my way out the door to rehearsal tonight. Please also enjoy the peek into my closet!

[tee: Boutique in San Francisco; shorts: J.Crew (old, but similar here); necklace: J.Crew Factory; skull bracelet: BaubleBar; watch: Nixon; wedges: Zara]

Please also note the two tumbleweed-sized hairballs my cats have left. Sigh. I love this t-shirt, and I can’t remember which boutique in San Francisco it came from, but the fabric is so soft and I love the asymmetry.
Maybe I’ll spend the last few hours of my weekend cleaning my dresser and my room!

shopping

I had the day off on Monday, so I went and stimulated the economy. Never say I am not a patriot! I tried on so many things, including this adorable cat-printed dress from Anthropologie.

[feline karma dress, Anthropologie]

I liked this dress, but didn’t love it, and certainly didn’t want to justify the price tag. The shoulders would also have to be taken in, and I’d like it to hit me an inch higher. If it ever goes on super-clearance in my size, I might have to snag it, though – the print is too cute!

Now on to the successes!

[sexy boyfriend jean: Gap; cheetah-print skirt: Loft; french hen sweater, striped tee (similar): J.Crew; hoodie: Gapfit; tee: ABC Store Las Vegas]

I’m totally excited to wear all of these – just need the weather to cooperate!
